Seynod in Haute-Savoie in the Rhône-Alpes region is a delegated commune of the city of Annecy. The population of this delegated municipality is more than 20,000 inhabitants, known as Seynodians.
Geographical and economic situation
Seynod covers more than 1900 hectares at an altitude of 450 to 1020 metres, with the centre of Seynod at 530 metres. In the 1950s, Seynod was essentially a rural commune with over 80 farms. The arrival of industries such as Metrix and then SNR allowed the expansion of economic zones such as Césardres, Val Vert and Cap Périaz. More than 800 companies employed 7,000 people. In 1965, the growth of Seynod was favoured by the merger of Vieugy and the merger with Balmont in 1973. Balmont merged completely in 1999.
The construction of large housing estates in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s increased the population from 500 in 1947 to over 20,000 in 2016. The creation of the Périaz commercial zone will allow the construction of more than 900 homes in this new district of Seynod.
