Where to get the Covid-19 vaccine in Annecy and Haute-Savoie?

The vaccination campaign against the coronavirus is in place at several sites in the department. Where to get the vaccine in Annecy and Haute-Savoie?

What is Covid-19?

The Covid-19 virus appeared in France in early 2020. It comes from the province of Wuhan in China. Highly contagious, it causes symptoms such as cough, fever and a loss of smell and taste in its mild forms. Unfortunately, some patients experience a severe form of the disease that leads to resuscitation in hospital. Death may be the fatal outcome. These patients show signs of comorbidity such as heart failure, diabetes or hypertension. They are usually older than 50 years.

Why get vaccinated against Covid-19?

Vaccination is therefore a response to this pandemic because it prevents severe forms of the disease. After more than a year of research, the world’s leading laboratories have developed vaccines that are effective against the coronavirus.

The Pfizer BioNTech laboratory was the first to propose a vaccine that is more than 95% effective. Messenger RNA technology was used to develop this vaccine. It is the first one authorised in France since the end of December 2020. A first injection is given, followed by a second injection three weeks later.

The High Authority for Health has authorised a second vaccine produced by the American laboratory Moderna. It requires the administration of two doses of vaccine with a minimum delay of 28 days between the two injections. It is 94% effective and can be stored for 30 days at 2-8°C. This vaccine has been available in pharmacies and general practitioners since 27 May 2021.

A third vaccine has been authorised since 7 March 2022. This is Novavax, which uses conventional vaccine technology and not messenger RNA. It is reserved for adults. It requires a booster 3 weeks after the first injection.

Full vaccination coverage allows the health pass to be obtained 7 days after the second injection. Since Monday 30 August 2021, people over 80 years old and people at high risk can make an appointment to receive a third dose of vaccine. The vaccine administered is a messenger RNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna). In order to receive this third injection, it will be necessary to have been vaccinated 6 months after the first injection of AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna, or four weeks for the Janssen vaccine. Since October 2021, this third injection concerns people over 65 years old.

Since 7 April 2022, a fourth dose is recommended for people over 60. It must be administered at least 6 months after their last dose.

Important: Scientific studies have shown that people who have already had the coronavirus are better protected with a single dose of vaccine than people who have not had the virus and have received both doses of vaccine. As Covid-19 disease can be asymptomatic, a rapid serological test is recommended just before the first dose is given. If this test is positive, it can identify former coronavirus patients and avoid an unnecessary second dose. This measure also frees up millions of doses of vaccine.
