The Lake Annecy International Triathlon is an unmissable sporting event every year. What are the events and how can you participate or attend as a spectator?
One of the most beautiful triathlons in Europe
This sporting challenge has been organised by the Hydros club for 33 years. The 2020 and 2021 editions have been cancelled due to the coronavirus health crisis. Traditionally, the event takes place on a Sunday at the end of June.
For triathlon enthusiasts, it is a magical setting: swim in the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy, cycle through the Parc Naturel des Bauges with a magical view of the lake and run on the Bay of Annecy between the Parc Charles Bosson and the Jardins de l’Europe. The swim is 1.5 km, the bike 40 km and the run 10 km.
At the same time, a race is proposed to children from 6 to 15 years old: the animathlon, which is a competition that combines the bike and the run. Registration is free and the race takes place on Saturday from 2.30 pm.
The Annecy triathlon course
The swim starts from the Pâquier with a loop towards the Ile des Cygnes, a passage under the Pont des Amours and an exit from the water at the Canal du Vassé, in the centre of Annecy.
The 40 km of cycling with 800 m of difference in altitude lead the riders to the Col de Leschaux in the Bauges massif. After a refreshment stop, the return journey takes place via the village of Saint Eustache and Saint-Jorioz along the shores of Lake Annecy. The running part takes place in Annecy in front of the lake on the Pâquier.
